Welcome to the Hinduism Department at DAV College Morcellement Saint Andre, led by Miss Chetteah Veedoosha. With a team of 5 educators, our department is dedicated to exploring the rich traditions, philosophy, and cultural heritage of Hinduism.
Exploring Sacred Texts:
The Hinduism Department offers a profound study of Hindu scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, and Bhagavad Gita. These texts encapsulate timeless wisdom and spiritual insights:
- From the Vedas: “सत्यं वद। धर्मं चर।” (Translation: “Speak the truth. Practice righteousness.”) — Taittiriya Upanishad
- From the Upanishads: “तत्त्वमसि” (Translation: “Thou art that.”) — Chandogya Upanishad
- From the Bhagavad Gita: “कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥” (Translation: “You have the right to perform your actions, but you are not entitled to the fruits of the actions. Do not let the fruit be the purpose of your actions, and therefore you won’t be attached to not doing your duty.”) — Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, Verse 47
Students delve into these texts to understand their philosophical underpinnings, ethical teachings, and spiritual guidance. The Vedas provide insights into ancient rituals and hymns, guiding early spiritual practices. The Upanishads delve into profound philosophical inquiries about the nature of reality, the self, and the universe. The Bhagavad Gita offers practical wisdom on duty, righteousness, and devotion, serving as a timeless guide for ethical living and spiritual growth.
Cultural and Spiritual Enrichment:
Beyond academic studies, the department organizes spiritual discourses, cultural events, and celebrations of major Hindu festivals. These activities provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of Hindu rituals, traditions, and cultural practices. Students are encouraged to engage actively in discussions and reflections that enhance their spiritual and philosophical awareness.
Join us in the Hinduism Department at DAV College Morcellement Saint Andre, where Miss Chetteah Veedoosha and our educators are committed to nurturing a comprehensive understanding of Hinduism, rooted in the wisdom of its sacred texts and enriched by cultural traditions.
